Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of the Bodega Bay Grange!
As a member, you can choose how active you’d like to be… Your annual dues help with the cost of our building’s maintenance, ongoing improvement projects, and special programs and events which we host throughout the year, as well as funding our scholarship program for local high school graduates. And if you’d like to be more actively involved, we are always looking for volunteers to help serve on a committee, or to pitch in with a project, or a special event. For the past several decades, we have hosted the annual Crab Cioppino Feast in February (serving all-you-can-eat Dungeness crab to sell-out crowds). Many of our members enjoy volunteering for a shift on behalf of the Grange at the annual Bodega Bay Fisherman’s Festival in May, which benefits 22 local nonprofits. We occasionally hold work parties, to do some building maintenance or landscaping, or Adopt-a-Highway litter pick-up along our assigned section of Highway One, just north of Salmon Creek. These events are a great way to get to know your fellow Grange members, while lending a hand in support of our community!
Additionally, the Bodega Bay Grange serves an important role as the primary Red Cross emergency shelter on the Sonoma Coast. We recently completed renovations to transform our kitchen into a certified commercial kitchen, capable of preparing hot meals for those seeking refuge in emergency situations, such as wildfires or earthquakes. We’ve updated our generator, to provide adequate power during outages, and we have an automated external defibrillator for use during a medical emergency.
And our facility serves many other purposes. The Grange Hall is an affordable option which can be rented out for meetings and workshops, or for catered functions, such as private dinners, family reunions, or wedding receptions, and members receive special rental discounts. In partnership with local nonprofits, we are proud to be home to the semi-monthly Waves of Compassion Food Pantry, and the annual Hitchcock Film Festival each October. Our facility also serves as a community gathering center, with periodic programs such as Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training, or town hall meetings, with local first responders or County Supervisors. And ongoing programs include Jiu-Jitsu classes for kids and adults (Monday and Thursday evenings), Table Tennis (Tuesdays at 11 am), Tai Chi classes (Fridays at 10 am), and Sanctuary of the Heart Church services (Sundays at 10 am). We also sponsor a nearby community flea market on the last two Saturdays of the month from March through October (weather permitting), and the Bodega Bay Coastal Garden Group, a community-based club of home vegetable gardeners with all levels of experience, sharing tips and inspiration.
Being a member of our community Grange automatically enrolls you as a member of the California State Grange. And as a member of the State Grange, you will have access to an assortment of member benefits through the National Grange, for everything from travel discounts to insurance. Please visit the National Grange website for more information: National Grange Member Benefits
